The United Nations has a lot of responsibility and must continue focusing on the major problems at hand. These nations are accountable for many predicaments around the world such as the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and criminal activity such as bribery and sexual abuse that has been occurring between peacekeeper soldiers and child soldiers or other women around the world. The United Nations is responsible for providing funding for common issues around the world to help protect the people in other countries from a similar problem. As more issues appear, accountability in the United Nations increases therefore increasing the amount of compromises that must be worked out between the nations.
Germany agrees that there are many issues around the world that must be dealt with soon. Germany is a strong believer of compromises to ensure the safety of all nations. Yet, our nation believes that accountability of the United Nations must enhance the effectiveness of development cooperation. Germany strives for a guide that designs a global accountability framework to support implementation of commitments under a renewed global partnership for development. This renewed guide will engage diverse countries for a more coherent solution based on events that have happened in the past. This idea was presented to the general assembly in hopes of decreasing poverty around the world. Germany believes that other countries can be more involved in implementation by being more open to compromises. After a compromise, that country may then be brought into the shared responsibility and decision making of that plan. Responsibilities may include money, time, and possibly someone to periodically observe the issue.
On account of the abuse by peacekeepers around the world, the United Nations agrees that there must be stricter rules to prevent these wrong actions done by peacekeepers. As of now, nations providing peacekeepers are fully responsible for their punishments if wrongdoing occurs. This limits the efforts of the United Nations in peacekeeper punishments. The United Nations has a “zero tolerance policy” on sexual abuse and hopes to enforce the rules and resulting punishments. Germany has donated money to help decrease sexual abuse, but agrees that there must be stricter rules and controlled training for the peacekeepers. Germany says that the United Nations should send out women to be a part of the peacekeeping force and therefore monitor the soldiers’ actions. If a soldier does happen to act in an inappropriate way, then the United Nations must take punishment action to help prevent future wrongdoing.
Germany believes that more must be done to improve procurement transparency among nations. Drug trafficking and other illegal actions are occurring in many nations and existing laws regarding these issues is insufficient. Germany agrees there is a need for new laws to decrease corruption within nations. Rules on confiscation of criminal assets will hopefully improve financial investigations of criminals. Germany expects the support from the United Kingdom along with other European nations.
