Almost every country in the world has neighbors and therefore has borders. Debates over borders have caused many conflicts that have led to war. Many disputes over borders stem from the desire to acquire resources that countries desire which can lead to border conflicts in which countries will go to arms in order to protect them. The UN’s goal is to make it so that countries do not take up arms and instead come up with solutions non-violently. The United Nations may bring in peacekeepers into the situation conflict escalates into a possible war but in many situations the peacekeepers do not have the power to make an impact in the situation and therefore are useless.
Haiti shares a border with the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is economically more stable than Haiti. As a country, Haiti are dependent on other countries for resources and money. Therefore many Haitian citizens go to the Dominican Republic for jobs and a better social standing. Especially after the 2010 Earthquake many fled to the Dominican Republic for sanctuary. Haiti worked to regulate the amount of people leaving the country but because of our limited resources we are unable to successfully limit border violations.The Dominican Republic is holding the most responsibility for regulating the border problem. It would also be beneficial for more funds to be sent in order help our nation get back on its feet economically so people will not desire to leave.
A solution to this problem should involve a greater increase in funds in order to provide more officials to regulate borders and keep the peace between nations in order to protect the civilians caught between the cross fire.
