The Republic of Korea holds strictly to the three-pillars of the NPT and believes the Member States should closely recognize the treaty as a step towards a more efficient and safer world. The NPT was designed to rid the world of nuclear weapons and instead use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Considering the current issues in the Middle East, we propose that all Member States who believe in the idea of a nuclear-free zone in the middle east to consider enforcing the NPT. We also believe that the Member States should sign the CTBT in order to prevent the testing of nuclear weapons to further our goal of halting production of WMDs. We believe all Security Council nations should reduce and/or halt the production of nuclear weapons.
Nuclear testing has aided advancements in nuclear technology. These advancements have continued to drive the international community to create more nuclear weapons. In order to hit the direct issue and enforce non-proliferation, The Republic of Korea believes strongly in the The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The CTBT is aimed at halting the testing of nuclear weapons which will directly correlate to the slowing in advancements of nuclear weaponry.
The Republic of Korea supports the idea of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East as a way to hopefully slow terrorists when it comes to getting their hands on nuclear weapons. We believe all nuclear facilities in the Middle East should be closely secured and observed to make sure that no nuclear material gets into the hands of terrorists. Terrorism is our biggest threat when it comes to keeping a controlled.
A major concern for The Republic of Korea is nuclear warfare, and we believe we should take every step reasonable to move towards this goal. We highly recommend looking at the NPT and the CTBT and take into consideration signing it.
