In the past years High-Tech Weapons Systems have become a problem for some nations, especially when it comes to the trade of them. One problem is the imbalance of power throughout nations. Also, huge amounts of money are being put into the trade of high-tech weapons systems. The trade of these only prolongs unrest in other countries. Weapons systems such as these could get into the wrong hands of people such as terrorists. Because of this we have a strict Export Control Act that helps to not distribute too many nuclear/defense-related products. Multiple steps have to be taken to receive a license and export weapons out of Norway, these rules are under the Export Control Regulations. With regulations like these, we regulations like these we believe that trading high-tech weapons systems can be possible.
One huge reason some countries do not want the trade of high-tech weapons systems is because there is possibilities that they could get into the wrong hands. With terrorists groups such as ISIS, this is a valid concern. There have been many cases where guns have gotten into the wrong hands, but we believe with strict rules like ours we can prevent that from happening.
In this committee, Norway would like to see rules of other countries become more strict in order to insure that weapons will not get into the wrong hands. We want there to be peace between nations, and not tension. If trading can become less dangerous with more limitations, we think that nations can obtain peace on this subject. Especially being so close to a country like Russia, who has many loose nukes, we think that these limitations will serve well for the safety of all nations. Also, with the safe trading of weapons, countries can make allies. This can make it so nations can come together.
In conclusion, Norway believes that, with strict regulations put in place, trading high tech weapons can be a good thing. If we take precautions, some countries will not have all the power, and high-tech weapons trading can bring together countries and make nations bond.
