The Great Lakes Invitational Conference Association has run several different conferences since its inception in 1973. Throughout GLICA’s history, the Great Lakes Invitational Model United Nations, or GLIMUN, has been GLICA’s flagship conference. GLIMUN is a more “traditional” Model UN conference that takes place in the fall semester, consisting of General Assembly and Economic & Social Council committees that culminate in plenary sessions, along with a specialized, usually Security Council, committee. GLICA also offers a somewhat smaller conference which alongside the standard committees includes a greater focus on specialized bodies, such as the Security Council, International Court of Justice, and Arab League, among others. This conference is known as the Spring Invitational Model United Nations, or SIMUN, and takes place early in the spring rotation each year. Finally, GLICA offers a one-day “virtual” conference that is smaller in scope and scale, to provide a self-contained Model UN experience entirely through videoconference technology. GLICA Virtual Conference is offered periodically on an on-demand basis. Please read on for details about GLICA’s currently available conference offerings.
GLIMUN is a four-day simulation of a single session of the United Nations. Scheduled in late November or early December, GLIMUN is early in the MUN conference year, which makes it ideal to introduce first-time delegates to the MUN experience, or get your experienced delegates into full swing for the busy spring conference months! Our committees are an appropriate mix to get your delegates, both novice and experienced, revved up for the rest of the year.

SIMUN is a three-day conference with both a smaller scale and a more specialized focus. SIMUN is scheduled in the spring, and a diverse array of committee choices permits delegates to participate in debates about issues not normally covered at other conferences. GLICA is pleased to announce that, due to popular demand, SIMUN will be returning for the 2022 spring conference season!
GLICA Virtual Conference
GLICA Virtual Conference is a one-day simulation designed to provide a self-contained Model UN experience entirely through videoconference technology. Scheduled on an on-demand basis, GLICA Virtual Conference committees are capped at no more than 30 students each, permitting a dynamic committee experience while ensuring that all delegates can participate fully.
