No nation is, or ever will be, invulnerable to the wrath of mother earth. As recent events in Japan and Haiti have demonstrated, the effects of modern Natural disasters are not confined by boarders or nationality. In today’s globalized, market the economic effects of a major supply chain disruption caused by an earthquake, tsunami, or hurricane are felt all over the world, in rich and poor countries alike. Natural disasters clearly warrant the careful consideration of the United Nations.
The Nation of Cameroon has a long and tumultuous history of natural calamities, from the Lake Nyos gas leak, to the chain of highly dangerous, still active volcanoes running through the country’s heartland. Thousands have been killed by nature’s wrath in Cameroon, and thus we have a great interest in gaining support for comprehensive strategies for aiding our country and others the next time disaster strikes.
Cameroon would propose a dual approach for reconstruction, involving immediate assistance for necessary infrastructure repairs coupled with a long-term strategy of donation to provide the changes needed to prevent future disasters for wreaking the same havoc. This could be made possible with funds form able, developed nations along with technological donations form companies to make available new, cost effective ways of improving and rebuilding a nation simultaneously. Cameroon and other disaster-prone nations need this help. We would expect other nations who feel this pain to support our cause.
