Somalia lies in the horn of Africa. Since the outbreak of the 1991 Civil War, there has been no central government control over most of the country while the Transitional Federal Government is the current internationally recognized government of the republic of Somalia. Somalia has been in a constant state of turmoil, fighting and anarchy since the collapse of Siad Barre’s regime in 1991. It remains one of the worst humanitarian situations in the world, with 3.2 million people in need of assistance and 1 in 7 Somalis having fled their homes.
Sierra Leone is an extremely poor nation with tremendous inequality in income distribution. We are facing similar problems in our economy like poverty and famine as are Somalia. The IMF has completed a Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility program that helped stabilize economic growth and reduce inflation and in 2010 approved a new program worth $45 million over three years. Political stability has led to a revival of economic activity. We believe that funding money can help Somalia too.
Now that we are growing, we look to help other countrys in need of our aid like Somalia. We believe that making a centralized governement for Somalia will lead to a better economy and a better environment for their people. Sierra Leone is looking to work with many countries to find a solution for Somalia and its governement by strengthening the state's capacity so that the government has greater legitimacy and the opposition gets disfavored.
