One of the most prominent threats to the world is the possibility that weapons of mass destruction (WMD) may fall into the hands of terrorist groups. Worldwide, there are stashes of unsecured WMD that, left unguarded, could be acquired by terrorist organizations. These WMD have the potential to kill hundreds of thousands of citizens worldwide. To prevent this threat from becoming a reality, nations of the world must come together to find a resolution.
Germany has been a world leader in the fight against terrorism. Our nation has taken many steps to combat the spread of terrorism and has many views on how best to deal with this issue. We hope to bring terrorists to justice, halt the proliferation of WMD, and assist countries without the capabilities to secure their own WMD. We believe that the threat of terrorists acquiring WMD poses a danger to both our nation’s economy and security.
To deal with threat, many actions must be taken. To begin with, nations must improve their accounting and physical protection systems for their WMD. This includes providing better security at the facilities in which the WMD are stored. States should attempt to crack down on the illicit trafficking of WMD. Nations should also make sure not to supply WMD to non-State actors. Finally, the international community should strive to provide assistance to nations lacking the infrastructure to secure their WMD. The nation of Germany calls upon the countries of the world to take these steps and more in order to prevent terrorist groups from obtaining weapons of mass destruction.
