The atrocities of the past few months in Egypt and more specifically the nations capitol, by government authorities must end immediately. As a natural human right, people are allowed to protest in whatever form peacefully. Egypt's army-installed interim government, obviously does not recognize this principal and as a result, thousands have been killed or effected by the violent outburst from the corrupt government.
As a fellow African nation, South Africa would like to help Egypt through this crisis peacefully. No more bloodshed is necessary in this great continent of ours. This is not only an issue of violence and lives lost, but this crisis moves Egypt further and further away from the democratic aspirations. Something the Egyptians, as well as fellow African nation are fighting so hard to achieve.
South Africa is no stranger to diplomatic outbursts of violence. We too had to fight for our democracy and know it is not something that should be taken for granted. Because of this realization, we feel it is absolutely necessary for Egyptian authorities to exercise utmost restraint in dealing with these peaceful protests.
We are prepared to send representatives to the nation to deal with this issue, and feel our fellow United Nations should do the same. That being said we will not aid in military action against Egypt's government. Instead, we feel that a peaceful resolution will do much more for this great nation that added fight. Fire cannot be fought with fire. Though we recognize that peaceful protests are the main cause of these violent outbursts, we believe if multiple nations of the United Nations come together and come to a peaceful resolution with the Egyptian government, the stability and democracy of the nation can be restored much faster and much more efficiently.
