America had been a big supporter in the disarmament effort, some treaties that America has signed regarding nuclear weapons are the new START treaty which has limited America’s amount of nuclear weapons which it can deploy, the treaty of Tlatelolco which regards nuclear weapons in latin america, among others.
The NPT is a vital document that helps ensure the safety of the world. As conflicts and disputes continue in the middle east the idea of a so called “ nuclear free zone may be a good option to prevent either side from acquiring these weapons of mass destruction. As this could be an infringement of national sovereignty countries, should be allowed to opt in or out if they so choose. Those countries that have chosen not to be a part of the NPT could be encouraged to join if we allow them to assist with the revisions, so they can insure that it fits their needs.
Some nations may not be able to keep their countries do not have the capability to disarm and secure their stockpiles, which is the reason that it is so vital to open avenues that such countries can seek and gain assistance. This assistance will allow the country to gain increased security for itself and for all other nations. We as an international community are only as strong as the weakest link, one nuke that is lost can spell disaster. The international community must stand as one in order to remedy this problem.
